PHLB1210 : Phlebotomy Procedures

This course provides practical instruction in the field of phlebotomy. Topics discussed include patient preparation, routine and non-routine specimen collection, safety procedures and infection control, documentation, as well as legal, ethical and professional considerations and other roles of a phlebotomist in healthcare. Students will practice phlebotomy skills for venipuncture and capillary punctures in a laboratory setting and also complete a 40-hour externship. A minimum of 30 completed venipunctures and 10 capillary punctures during the externship are required for successful completion of the course.
